Lignin

LignoSolve revolutionizes wood treatment by impregnating it with lignin, a by-product of the paper industry, solubilized in biobased solvents. This patented technology enhances wood’s natural resistance to moisture and fungal decay without harmful chemicals, enabling local non-durable wood species to replace tropical and biocide-treated wood. With applications in outdoor furniture, playgrounds, and outdoor constructions, LignoSolve addresses global sustainability needs while promoting greener building practices.

Tor Ivan Simonsen

During his PhD, Tor Ivan Simonsen has focused on transforming paper industry waste into biofuel, but the research took an unexpected turn. This side-track inspired the idea of using lignin from paper industry waste to make wood more durable for outdoor environments, leading to the LignoSolve project. Spin-outs Denmark represents an exciting start for Tor Ivan Simonsen after his PhD.

This project is supported by Spin-outs Denmark, a unique program that invests in researchers who create more impact by starting research-based companies.
