Next-gen Materials

Mycosealium aims to develop an innovative fungal leather alternative made from a unique fungus with natural water-repellent properties. This sustainable material offers a cruelty-free, eco-friendly solution for fashion, upholstery, and more. By harnessing the natural abilities of fungi, we’re creating a durable, versatile product that minimizes environmental impact while offering superior performance and design potential.

Klaus Ringsborg Westphal

Klaus Ringsborg Westphal holds a PhD in biotechnology from Aalborg University and has worked with the natural product chemistry of fungi over the past 10 years. This research has resulted in an innovative approach to create a bio-based material for replacement of leather.

This project is supported by Spin-outs Denmark, a unique program that invests in researchers who create more impact by starting research-based companies.
